Good deal!! Excited to see the reverse proof enhanced half

 

My long-standing quibble is that "reverse proof" makes no numismatic sense. A proof is a coin made with a specific method of manufacture, not with a specific type of finish. Reverse proof indicates the opposite of that process, or doing it backwards. Had they called it "reverse cameo," I'd be fine with it. Of course, if coins are designed leveraging the die texturing technology, and the design doesn't have a traditional delineation between field and device (such as the Apollo 11 coins), then using the term "cameo" doesn't make much sense either, since the entire coin is a mix of varying degrees of frosted and non-frosted surfaces. Working dies are scrapped long before the frosting changes appearance, too, so there doesn't much need to be a term designating the fact that the frosting is still there. There's nothing special about it.

Got the pamphlet in the mail for these. Definitely want the half dollar set and the 5oz proof.

 

If I’m not mistaken, the Baseball HOF curved commems are currently selling at or below original issue prices. After the hype, the moon coins will probably go the same way as those and other high mintage commems. As for the 5 ouncer, with such a high montage, I bet it will be selling at melt in a few years. The high priced half dollar set will be the winner IMHO because of the Kennedy half. Short term, this series should certainly be a moneymaker for the flippers though.

I got a brochure in the mail from the U.S. Mint. Its regular price is $53.95. But for today, there might be a slightly lower introductory price, I think. Well, one more hour to go.

I keep seeing reverse proof mentioned, but which coin is that? I am not finding one on their site that says "reverse".

It's the Kennedy Half Dollar that comes with the Half Dollar Set.

For some reason I didn't think it was the Kennedy.

 

One of the reasons why I'm getting (I hope) the Half Dollar set is to see for myself the actual visual difference between the "Enhanced Reverse Proof" and the "Reverse Proof" Kennedy from the 2018 Reverse Proof Set.

 

I've bought several commemorative coins (in OGP and with COA) from ebay and, you're right - I agree. For over 90% of them, I paid less than the original U.S. Mint prices when I researched it.
