Hey everyone, I'm gonna share my goal for today with everyone. And ederly friend of my parents birthday is coming up, and I thought I would put together a little gift for her. I'm gonna do a birthyear set for her for her birthday. I'm gonna check out a few dealers today, and see if I can find the coins I need for this. Birthdays party is tomorrow, so have no choice but to do it today. :D But, of course didn't think to do this till a few days ago. Now, most of you are probably wondering "Well, how hard is that going to be?" Well, haven't told you what year she was born. 1913. ;) Not a super tought year, but it is going to be a challenge, especially with the quarter and half. Well, thought I would share, and will let ya guys know how I do. Wish me luck!

I hear that the 1913 Morgan dollar is extremely rare lol... good luck finding one.

Love this idea btw... I actually have done this for my grandfather (1924), father (1951) and my 3 brothers (1981, 1983, 1986... for them just got proof sets from those years). Also did this for my parents' anniversary (1974) and for two of my brothers' weddings (2007). For them I just got proof sets from those years but replaced the quarter with the state quarter where they got married (Washington, Colorado, Nevada.)

Thanks all, I'm back. DJP, the dealer had a big 1913 replica, so I considered it. :D Frank, ROTFL. I wasn't able to pick up a 1913 half unfortunatly. I got the qaurter though, and the dime, already had the buffalo and Lincoln. BTW, I edited my post, her birthday is actually the 12th, they are just having her party tomorrow to surprise her. So, that still gives me a little time to pick up the half dollar. I saw all these 14's, and 12's, but no darn 1913 half dollars! Man, lol. Oh, and btw, I am a very very very very weak person. I couldn't help it, I saw a gorgeous Lincoln. I tried to resist, but it was calling out to me. :D Lol. It is a 1925 Lincoln, in ATLEAST XF-45 condition, wouldn't surprise me if it would be an AU. This guy has great color, I mean wow. And is very nice. Will try to get pics up of it, and the others up later on. I'm gonna search online for a 1913 half. :D

And here's the Lincoln I picked up. I took it out of the 2x2, and I was amazed at how much that I couldn't see from the 2x2! And I mean that in a good way. :D This coin's luster is awesome, and that color is wow. Also, those stalks look even better in hand! LMK what ya'll think of it! BTW, paid a $1.50 for it. :D Not a steal I don't think, but I think I did pretty good. Also, paid about $10 for the quarter above, and $2 for the dime.

I tried to do the same thing for my father, unfortunately he was born in 1933, right in the middle of the depression. I think they only made a cent, nickel and dime that year. Pretty sad looking set.

They look like Capital year set holders. Most coin supply stores sell them.

Logical, thanks! I've gotten the idea from a few other memebers, and I think I know what I am getting eveyrone else for there birthdays this year, lol. The newer ones I'll probably get proof sets. We'll see. Thanks for taking a look. :thumb: BTW, got the half in the mail already, will post it when it gets here. And I'll let ya guys know what she thinks of it! I can't wait to give the set to her.

Coinlover, Thanks! I got the holder when I purchased a broken up 73 proof set I think, and it was housed in it. It's a Whitman Coin Holder, and is pretty nice. Some dealers and like GD said Coin supply stores have them.
