    That mean old die crack stopped the S from being put on that coin. Hmm - $15 dollars for a cleaned ground down 1908 - yep a bargain in my book - for the seller. :)

    I was waiting for that reply. Yep it's a harshly cleaned 1908. That's no die crack and no S mintmark.

    I think it may have been a poor attempt to forge an S mintmark on the coin at one point.

    Yeah, the die crack caused the S to fall off.

    Rare variety: S fell off!

    I don't think they cleaned the coin.

    I think they used the coin to clean something else... like maybe scrub dirt off those cool spinning hubcaps. :rolling:

    the blob/MM is not even close to the place where the S should be, which is way off to the right

    oh come on! And I have a blank planchet that is a 1909-S VDB 100% offstrike!

    Wow I missed such a great buy. I could of got a real bad 08p worth 50 cents for 15 Bucks, Oh well mayby he will relist this treasure.
