Ok all you critics and pundits
What say you about this coin !!!!

Yes its' raw and yes it is graded EF ..... Can it be an AU-58 / MS61/62 ???

All comments welcome ........ a buy / no buy decision pending, so here's your chance to provide me some help. Price: A lot of $$$$ and not negotiable, but I'll handle that part of the decision.

She's a real beauty for sure. I say buy!!

Hard to tell what it's all about though... maybe something like this:

Guy on the right: Would you care to see a wine list, Sir?

Guy on the left: No, no, I couldn't possibly... just bring me some bread, please.

You really are getting pretty good at making me not like you anymore :D

You don't find these every day, Henry VI circa 1450 - and it is a beauty !! If it's not cleaned, NGC will say MS62 :thumb:

The gamble ......"If it is not cleaned"
but it is not an auction and I have a 15 day return option, so at least I have the opportunity to observe it in hand !!!!

If it works out to be clean and an MS 62 ............ I will have saved myself potentially $600- $700 off of avg dealer price.

I don't either ....... and this will weigh heavily on my ultimate buy / no buy decsion !! I will have a chance to observe the coin in hand prior to final payment and determine my own grade, so it isn't a total gamble !!!!!

Spock ... of all people ... I would trust you could find out a ballpark dealer/auction price:)

Beautiful and a very historical coin. Always liked the way they were punching the alphabets on these. Thanks for sharing.

    Isn't worth any more slabbed.

EF, and no more, because of slight weakness on the head- it basically means as struck here.

And no, it hasn't been cleaned (all medieval gold looks like that if it wasn't debased)

Buy it if you like it, but don't bother slabbing it and trying to make cash...no one buys medieval gold slabbed....

ah yes, the old...buy...slab...flip for more money...its what makes this hobby great and our coin more expensive... :)

Maybe not in the UK Jerome but they sure do here in the US. And he's not not trying to make cash - he doesn't sell his coins.

    Jerome and Drusus,

Whatever I do regarding slabbing it won't have anything to do with flipping it for more money.

I'm a true collector with my main interest at this time is in building a first class "World Gold" collection.
I have never sold a gold coin and don't plan to within the next 15 years.

With that said I consider myself a very savy buyer and if I can get a raw coin for less than a similar TPG graded coin, I'll strongly consider it.

Jerome you and I are on different ends of the agrument regarding TPG/slabbing. I have no problem with it .. I like the thrid party authentification, reconfirmation of my grading, detection of problems, storage solution, etc. It's worth $30-35 to me when I'm spending hundreds and these days thousands of dollars for a coin !!!

I do appreciate you guys comments though
    Thanks

i know what you mean these days even silver is costing inthe thousands let alone gold :(

kudos then...my apologies, you are using the TPG system as I think it should be used, for your own peace of mind and confirmation and not to eek a few more dollars out of a flip.

I would hate to see this coin relegated to such a fate, it should be in the hands of a collector (for a reasonable price) who will appreciate it for what it is, a wonderful little piece of history.

as for grading and standards, I would have to say that, I am a bit old fashioned in my grading and dont play into the more complicated aspects of later grading on minutia with number scales. Good very good, fine, very fine, xfine UNC/BU (or FDC) is sufficient (IMO) for a coin like this. It is XF without doubt and this envy I am feeling right now tells me that its a superb coin in great shape, grats!

BTW, I wouldnt give a rats behind if an old coin like this had been cleaned...as long as it isnt real harsh (see the cleaning with the naked eye) :)

I think there will be...I hope at least...some of the rules set seem silly to me when you are dealing with such old coins and artifacts...no one expects a Roman as or denarius not to be cleaned...you just assume they have. With a later coin like this, as long as someone didnt use steel wool and ruin the look of the coin...why does it matter? (rhetorical question...it doesnt) :)

oh well...nice coin though...both the last 2 goldies you posted have been great :)
