I stumbled on this nickel and when looking in my book there was no place for it. I have both the 1969-D and 1969-S. And when researching it, there was no Philly? Is this something? Mint Error or die polishing error?

It's probably hiding under the dirt/grease buildup

    There's nothing there.

Was the D or S dissolved and the black spot is a chemical reaction? I am asking if it is possible.

Your right Oldhoopster! I didn't think the dirt/grease was enough to hide it. Thanks

No Philly nickels 68,69,70. That's interesting. Perhaps because they made all the coins in 65,66,67 and needed a break.

All the 68, 69 and 70 nickels were made in Denver and San Francisco, but due to either filled dies or die polishing (Who knows there might have even been a die each year that didn't get the mintmark punched into it) 68, 69, and 70 nickels without mintmarks do exist. I have mentioned them many times, and I have had some in the past. For some reason no one has ever really paid any attention to them. They go ga-ga over a 22 cent without a mintmark or a buffalo nickel with part of the front leg polished off, but no one cares about an "impossible" nickel.

Better and closer pictures would be nice. Crop out everything but the coin and post using the full image option not thumbnails.
