I commented before the second set of photos, those look a lot more wholesome. Surfaces still look weird but I’ll guess AU53. On wear alone it looks higher but I’d pass.
Somehow, in some way, this will turn into a TPG bashing thread. I'll pass, Typecoin. You seriously have rubbed me the wrong way, multiple times.
I agree with L96 on the MS62 , though I do see some distracting marks especially on the obverse, I don't see any serious, or other wise important, signs of wear.
Dang, that's nice, though the toning is rather mottled for my personal tastes. I say AU55-58, but since it's one of those "super slider" coins that could fall on either side of the MS threshold, I suppose MS62 wouldn't surprise me, either. To firm up my guess, put me down for AU58, if it's straight-graded.
MS62 or UNC Details; there’s virtually no wear on the high points, but I am not sure if surface condition and luster are good enough for a straight grade
Surefaces look weird, right, but there’s virtually no wear. AU58 maybe, but it’s certainly not a 53 - or is this supposed to be a “net” grade?
I guess the "rub" I thought I was seeing on the highest hair curl and eagle's eyebrow might just be normal flatness where the strike maxed out, then? Starting to drift over to the MS camp, upon further consideration...
When I said 53 I was definitely thinking of that as a net grade as the wear doesn’t support it, in fact I didn’t really see any wear and just the slightest signs of circulation. To me it looks cleaned though, so giving it a straight MS grade doesn’t feel right either as the lack of luster and blotchy surfaces don’t look original and MS to my eyes. Hard to tell what the luster is like from these images, but from these alone it doesn’t look strong enough for a high AU or MS grade, but the detail is all there and there appears to be plenty of trace luster left, so I said 53. As far as I can tell that’s the problem with net grading- if it’s been cleaned things don’t add up in one way or another, so if you try to assign it a straight grade to compensate for that value-wise it still doesn’t make sense. I suspect that may be the point of this thread, but we’ll see. As always, it’s just guessing from pictures so I reserve the right to be completely and utterly wrong. Might be some weird album toning and evenly lustrous in hand.
Looks like it, without the die defect near left wing, so early die state. R-1 As for grade? Who knows, which picture is more accurate?
