    • LEGAL-TENDER COINS –These coins are all legal tender in the United States.

"govMINT" is NOT the US Government. They are an arbitrary company that has used a name to make you think they are.

"POCKET CHANGE" ... as in, pocket change. used. It may look nice but it's NOT BU.

"FROM THE YEAR MAN SET FOOT ON THE MOON" .. just so happens the coins are from 1969. We could put together a "First year European Union" set, or "Woodstock set" if we wanted too .. or "First NFL SuperBowl" too. We can make "Birth Year" sets of each year too and sell them for far more than they are worth to people.

"LEGAL-TENDER COINS" Yes, you can spend them as they are real money.

"BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED CONDITION" - No. Not really.

I'm sorry, but if you bought that set from govmint, you've been swindled, flim-flammed, bamboozled, and ripped off.

They are correct about pocket change and legal-tender. But I would not say that the coins are definitely BU condition, and many are probably not quite as sharp or fresh as the day they left the mint..... because many times, people will find that coins can take a few treks around the block, gathering nicks and such, and still retain luster and not have so much metal wear down that people who don't know better don't think it's worn. I would say there is as good a chance of it being technically AU coins, but if it is not, if it is uncirculated, it is still lower grade and not worth much. Most people won't even buy that for a dime.

    Please stop believing the hype.

You can get a 1969 mint set on ebay for $6-$10+ shipping, the mint sets contain one of each denomination minted that year from both the Philadelphia and Denver mints.

OP..... Look.... you have garnered the attention of some of the most numismatically educated old coots around. Please understand that you set the tone here with your disrespectful comment to @TheFinn ..... If you were aware of his numismatic credentials, I suspect you would not have lashed out as you did. Don’t stand on a wall beating your chest. Please, it’s a community that welcomes all..... As long as that welcomee responds with a little courtesy.

I know this is off topic, but I absolutely love the name GovMint because it sounds like someone with a southern accent saying "government" in my head.

Add about three zeros and you'd be about right.

Actually, as I sit and think about it, it'd probably be closer to 50K than 25K.

I seem to remember you mentioning in another thread that you were also a collector of space memorabilia. If I am wrong just disregard..... Have you ever seen any of the Grissom Gemini dimes go up for auction?

Yes, I do collect space memorabilia.

With regards to the Grissom dimes, he took two rolls of Roosevelts with him (e.g. 100 dimes in total) on his (suborbital) Mercury flight, Liberty Bell 7, in 1961. He gave those dimes to various people who helped with his flight. All of the Roosevelt dimes from that flight that I have seen are 1961-Ds. Grissom carried the dimes with him in a pocket on his spacesuit. The capsule sank in the ocean, and Grissom almost drowned.

On his next flight, GT-3 in 1965, (G stands for Gemini and T stands for Titan, which was the booster rocket) he figured that he didn't want nearly as much weight in his suit, so he only carried 1 dime with him. He gave that dime to Guenter Wendt, the "Pad Leader", the guy whose team helped make sure all the systems were go in the Gemini capsule before launch, and then strapped Grissom into the capsule.

I own one (of the 100) Liberty Bell 7 Grissom dimes. Here it is:

I'm also lucky enough to own the ONLY Grissom Gemini flown dime, so I'm the only person in the world who has a "complete set" of Grissom space flown dimes. You'll note that he scratched GT-3 into the obverse with his knife.

So yes, as a matter of fact, I have seen these dimes go up for auction... ;)
