I littery just finshed going through about 4 rolls of wheats. Found a few that would be Amazing if they where on better shape... Last roll has this rusty looking penny, my eyes hurt and i think there playing tricks on me!!! What do you think????? Cant be right!!!!
It's Environmental Damage on an old Wheat Cent.. Looks like 1944. I have seen many like yours when I go metal detecting.
I surly would if it was sandwiched between two copper cents for 20-30 + years. Copper and Zinc are # 29 and 30 on the periodic table of elements. And nickel is #28.
Had you found a 1943 cent, chances are it would be a lot rustier since those were zinc-plated steel. The zinc wore off relatively quickly (I remember occasionally seeing fully rusty '43 cents in circulation in the 50's & 60's) and it didn't take too much to get the steel rusting once it had been "un-galvanized".
It was just a damaged coin someone put it in vinegar something. But last night i got $1 coin that mite be a real cool. Make a new post about it. Check it out!!!!!
