Well from what I understand even today there are no left handed guns, you are trained to to shoot right handed....as shooting a M-16 left handed you have hot brass flying by your face.

Some people are into odd stuff, I guess. BTW, lefthanded guns do exist, but maybe not in the military. I wouldn't know that.

My son is right-handed, but due to a lazy eye problem as a kid, is left eye dominant. You should see THAT comedy routine trying to get a sight picture.

I had two lefties in my platoon way back when. Simple add on brass deflector was the answer.

There's a dude about 5 miles from my previous home who makes very expensive custom rifles for big game hunters, including those African safari guys, and you can get it made any way you want it. Every piece is full custom. You want a stock made from a rare hardwood? He can get it for you.

That cool and I bet pretty pricy for a custom gun...but a kid I grew up with had a hard time as a south paw durring his training for Nam.
Plus the early 16's had a few bugs in them and were not like by our soldiers.

I am the oldest year of people NOT subject to the Nam draft, 1955. We all turn 64 this year. Let THAT sink in.

My dad used to poke fun at the rifle guy, who lived next door to my sister at one time. He used to ask him if his rifle slings were made only from the hides of pre-born identical twin water buffaloes. My dad was like that.

I need to sign up for Medicare mid April...
Funny story about the draft board... well funny now.... then not so funny!
Since I turned 18 in H.S. they allowed you the time from class to go register before your 18 birthday or on....it.
So I did... so one day I am sitting in class and the intercom comes on and ask???
Is Paddy in class...and the English teacher and 1/2 The class reply yes he is.
Please send him down to the office....so I diddy bop down the hall still wondering what I did ????? And of course before I left the class room the other class members are razing me what did you do?
I enter the office and am greeted by my guidance counselor Mrs. Luba, and two men in uniforms .
Now what I didn't know was they had already did a fly by my home and asked my mom my wearabouts...... she said school.
So I enter the counselors office and I am told that I will be escorted by these two men in uniforms to be inducted into the service.:wideyed:
Long story short the old woman at the draft board some how messed up my paper work...and had be born in 1950 not 54! Thus I was late by years mind you , for reporting for induction as my draft number was always in the top 100 numbers picked.
"My old joke...only lottery I ever hit was the draft lottery" now mind you the woman at the draft board as my memory serves me ...looked as she had one foot in the grave and the other on a bananna peel!
    Well everything was resolved...:nailbiting:
But for about an hour.....I was ...well let's say :woot:! My pants.
I am sitting there saying I'm not that stupid that I just spent the last 4 years try to get through high school.:bookworm:
And of course my school records proved it....:stop:
But yeah those days were a blast ....if you didn't need to worrie about your rich uncle wanting to send you on an all expense paid vacation to China beach!
This was 1972.... and two years later Saigon fell.... and I just kept asking myself why? Of course these were my college years..... :cigar::wacky::writer::yuck::vomit:o_O and it was the 70's. :D

Interesting story behind that 1920 medal at the top of the thread. I thought the portrait looked a bit *odd*, even for 1920's Germany, so I looked it up. Thanks for posting.

@Paddy54 I know what you mean. I'm a Vietnam Era Vet, graduated in 1972. I was in my 50's, at home, when I was approached by 2 armed PM's. I answered the door and they started asking the questions. After about 10-12 questions they didn't believe me. I showed them my Drivers License and my DD-214.

They looked at each other in silence before one of them stated there was obviously a paperwork error. They told me not to worry about it and stated they would take care of everything.

They did as I've never heard another thing about it. Good thing but I wouldn't have passed their physical due to having 4 implants in both feet. I've been laughing about it ever since.

Well they were always looking to draft or insist a body in the early 70's.....the court system helped out alot as the judge would ask ya?.....jail or service? Most picked the service.
These two were MP's.....from Ft. Meade here in Md.
Crazy times...but the music was the best ever....I recall in 69 trying to figure out how I could get to Woodstock....?
I had a lot of college buddies that were Nam vets.... you definitely could tell without asking some crazy dudes.
And of course I fit right in....with them.
And lost a few too.... a good friend Steve J that made it through Nam...but not though life afterwards.... as on Christmas day after exchanging gifts his kids and grand kids ...said" I'm going out to the van for a smoke"...Steve had a cig ,and then put a 38 to his head.
His name belongs on the wall....as he was a Nam casualty too!

Don't like either of the designs, but I don't think there is a "remarkable similarity": Of course Goetz wanted to convey a negative image (à la "those darn black French soldiers occupying our wonderful Germany"), and some of his other propaganda medals about this are even worse. The US coin wants to celebrate a victory, and you're not supposed to find the background laughable or detestable ...
