I found this in a mix of my dad's coins is this a common error for this date should I get it slabbed and most of all any idea of the value?
Hi There, welcome to coin talk. Is there any way that you can post pictures of the coins that you have? That really helps to determine any value. Thanks!
here's some info to look up about 1809 Half Cents https://www.usacoinbook.com/coins/half-cents/classic-head/
maybe the 2nd planchet was pushed underneath and this one wasn't ejected completely. Thus the obverse double stamp and design fade on the reverse as the planchet took the reverse strike on it's reverse. I wonder what happened to that 2nd planchet. @paddyman98 @Fred Weinberg
Thanks, USS656 & longshot for the advice I will send it out this week and post an update when I get the results back. I have also received several private messages wanting to know if I wanted to sell this coin at the present time I don't have enough information to know what I have. Agreed?
Agreed @Mike Adams. Do not sell until it is slabbed and you've done some research. That coin is awesome! I would love to own it.
Best two comps I've been able to find. Value will depend on potential damage to your coin, extent of error (%) and if rotated.
