I agree here. Many of the inquiries on this thread represent conditions that are nothing more than typical manufacturing variances. I don't think it possible to find a perfect coin out of a run that was intended for circulation. I have collected for 70 years but am still learning what those manufacturing variances are. So, that is good.

I've seen my share of PF and MS70's in bullion golds and silvers throughout the years. And I must say a gold 70 is truly an eyeful but not much different than a 69

 

Probably true. However, finding one 1958 (and potentially yet unknown others) would make it well worthwhile. I think collecting has gotten bitter, kinda like our society today. One group on one side, one on the other. The Purists versus everybody else. Kinda sad for the hobby really. Sometime I just can't understand the apparent dislike for roll hunters and the like. Oughta be enough for everybody to go round. Nothin' personal. Just sayin'.

 

I understand.. I'm willing to help as much as I can on most threads.. But I just get so annoyed with the "How much is it worth?" questions.. I have been collecting for almost 34 years now and I have never sold any of my coins or really cared about potential premiums.

 

Understood. I think it's easier for newer collectors to just jump onto a forum like this and ask without researching anything prior. I know I used to (probably still do). I can see both sides. Also, so many people at different levels of knowledge and experience prompts the kind of things you're referring to.

 

....to me its not about the premium in value but finding the premium example whether purchased or picked up in the park. The One group on one side, one on the other divide is not exclusive to our hobby its a nationwide thing.

And, which TPG graded those 70's?

Was back in the Gold/Silver roller coaster days and a lot of precious was being graded and sold. Mostly PCGS in the Sets and NGC for the individuals and Mint States

I was lucky enough in 2010-11 to realize around 75% Proof 70's out of the 10 submissions per month I was making.

 

Actually, I was questioning the comment about MS70's. I was getting about 35% of my uncirculated submissions to NGC that came back MS68 with the rest at MS67, and that was really good! I never got a 69 or 70 in MS, but I expected that.
