I'll make this short. What is the concurrence on cleaning a coin slightly to be able to clearly view the mint mark for RPM, OVM etc.? Is there a proven method for for being able to see and photograph an RPM that is surrounded by dirt and human gunk?
Approved or not, if the coin is circulated, I submerge it is a glass petri plate or shallow glassware with a covering of acetone. Then I let it soak for 15-20 minutes , you can cover the top, and then use the brush to gently swirl the acetone over the coin and remove the surface gunk. it can be repeated if the gunk is heavy, but try to limit the brush to the areas you need to see, I would not use this on a MS or Proof. Such coins have been through the larger TPG s with no rejection. JIM
a Home Depot thing or a specialty place? acetone Hey man I Found one of those BIBIOh errors like that Hardy index talked about. A chip between every letter. The number looks like it's gonna be about 12-15 digits long!
Your local hardware store has the commercial grade. If you want to ruin your coin then nail polish remover will do just that.
Alright never used the acetone b4 so thanks for the info. Should the coins take a lengthy bath? Or a short one then rinse with H20...
