It looks like Die deterioration doubling which adds no value.

This is a link to John Wexler's Doubled Die site. It has some good information. Also click on the Worthless DOubling tab for an explanation of DDD

Not trying to be picky, but the correct spelling for the coin is Nickel. It's a common mistake but having been a teacher, misspelled words pop out at me.
I too believe you have machine doubling, based on your photos.
Welcome to CT, by the way.

You can always check first if there is even a DD for that year/mm/denomination.
If not, it's unlikely that you have unearthed the discovery coin.
This list says there isn't one. I checked the link that goes from 1982-2004.

Machine Doubling does seem to be a go-to answer for this type of Doubling.
The thing is there is three other types of Doubling under the Heading of MD.
If people want to find up which one they may have, The research is their business.
And considering that none of them add any value to they coins nobody really goes that far with it. Or they do not read the links that are posted.

Understood, except that they do seem to (whomever they would be) be 'discovering' more and more 'errors' from coins that have been around for decades now. This leads me to believe there are more to be 'found', and determining what's what seems more important than ever. The 89D cent, for instance. My main point being that having the ability to determine what's what being of primary concern. I guess referencing the differences is the best way to develop an ability to do so (in my case) would be most beneficial. Regardless, I still have a tough time differentiating between the examples of each.
