I agree in not paying a premium ... but with that said I am willing at times to pay a $25-35 fee on particular coins (let's say $150-$200+) that I collect for the authentication and reconfirmation of my grade/condition afforded by NGC or PCGS. ( And yes Spock I do know that even they can make mistakes )
/amen The only time I'll even buy a coin in a slab is if it's a reasonably valuable one that has a high risk of being faked... in which case I'm paying for authentication, not grading.
But there is a grade and authenticity guarantee that is associated with the slab and that should add value.
David, if you don't already have a 1960 D Small Date, I am getting ready to send in a bunch of really really nice ones to NGC. Please take the BST offers to PM's guys Tom
Spock, maybe you don't know, but you are basically taunting one of the most knowledgable people in the industry when you try to belittle Mark. To suggest he doesn't know what is going on at NGC is silly; if anyone on this board know about the inner working there it is him. That said as the largest submitter to NGC we get a very advantageous submission rate for our bulk submissions and I can guarantee it is nowhere near $1 per coin, I find that number to be unbeleivable. Which dealer told you they get that rate? I would like to submit through him.
Glad I found this thread, missed it here, found it looking on google for bulk submission info , of all places huh? Good info to be found, G Margoli and Mark....thanks !!!!
