    Pretty sure it didn’t sell

Mike Byers originally listed it in 2016 and he is still trying to sell it (see the Amazon link I provided)

I found nothing stating that it previously sold. Can you link to the Fox story?

  6. That was a couple of years ago

  7. The Quarter was certified for $35.000

    My god

The third party graders don’t certify or dictate coin prices. Where are you coming up with this stuff?

Price is dictated by the market. What someone wants to pay for it. And apparently no one wants to pay 35k for this.

And it didn’t sell two years ago. The same guy still has it listed.

  9. He has it but he had six of them NGC graded the Quater so take it up with them

Well Jerry, it is jerry isn't it? We don't have to Google anything to figure this one out. The US Mint never minted Canadian coins, SO for that coin to get in the bin with all the other planchets, someone put it there. To the best of my knowledge, an error is a coin that didn't turn out as intended. If someone put that coin in the planchet bin, it turned out exactly as intended. Coins of this type, in my opinion, are counterfeit. Made only to deceive.

Where? Where in gods name are you getting any of this information? If you have sources, please link to them.

All the articles say that it is a unique coin. No other ones exist.

Have fun looking for a coin that doesn’t exist. I can think of a better ways to spend my time.

  12. Mike Byers is pretty well known I don't think he would counterfeit a coin

Not what I’m saying. I’m saying he has the only one in existence and it hasn’t sold in over two years.

    I’m out.

Jerry, The coin is real and it was certified by a TPG (there is only 1). If I remember correctly, this and a number other of "spectacular errors turned up in an unclaimed safety deposit box or as part of a drug raid asset forfeiture (the experts can correct me if am missing some of the details). Many of these errors could not have left the mint through normal channels. When you consider the circumstances under which they were found, it is apparent that somebody was working a little "overtime" at the mint.

Here is a link about a mint employee who was convicted of taking error coins from the mint and selling them.

So yes, strange things can happen at the mint. However, these coins were made/stolen by somebody looking to make a profit. Why would they go through all of the risk and planning just to spend it at face value for somebody to find almost 50 years later?

I would strongly suggest you take some time and study the minting and die making process. It will help you understand why all of the stuff you're posting is either damage or minor errors. It will also help you understand that the responses you're getting are the correct answers.

Hope this helps. In the mean time, I'm joining @frankjg Over and out.

Mint employees have been known to create mischief like this. For my money, this is not a Mint “error” but a deliberate attempt to deceive and profit from that deception — on the part of whoever created it.

It is completely based on the "Greater Fool " hypothesis, there is always a fool ready to buy if they think they can resell it, charge fees to see it, get free airline miles, whatever.....But sooner or later the ride stops with the biggest fool holding the goods ( or bankruptcy) . But , if someone has money to burn with a constant supply available, it is a "Monument" associated with their name and worth the puny money.

I don't understand why you're being so rude, testy, and confrontational with people when they're trying to help you. Perhaps it's the internet to blame, but it sounds to me by the tone of your posts that you're being quite disrespectful, and for absolutely no reason. Considering the fact that you're not well versed in Numismatics, and come asking knowledgeable folks for help, the least you could do is be gracious to those sharing their expertise.

The answer is the way to tell it is to go wherever the coin is now, since it's the only one.

Did they in 1970 when surveillance systems were much more expensive? As I recall they would have one camera covering the whole bank with resolution so poor you wouldn't recognize your own mother if she walked past.

They did, in 1969, ten cent pieces. But not in San Francisco.
