    I agree, post. I agree wire cutters is the most likely reason.

    To add, though, because many people look at this site without posting and without any general knowledge of coins, the diameter of the coin is larger at the defect than a standard coin. *IF* this had been a mint error it would require a error on at least two dies (from the available pics) -- the obverse die would need a defect that cause a very deep impression, or a strike through object to provide that depth; *AND* the collar die would need a defect to provide the extra circumference.

    Far more likely to be post -- esp. wire cutters, bolt cutters, etc.
