Good day and All the Best in '19 to all the members. I stopped by the bank today for non-collecting business. I asked my service person if there were coins the tellers didn't want to count. She came up with a big fistfull of loose SBA's--including a clean 1979 date variation-- and also 6 "minty-fresh" rolls of Presidentials. Currently, I have about 40-50 mint-wrapped rolls of various years. What I got today were 2007 Washingtons and John Adams rolls in the commemorative wrappers. Realizing that small cash investments gather nearly zero interest, I usually tuck the mint-wrapped rolls aside for saving purposes. All my sealed Presidential rolls have come face-value from banks. Now I realize that this series has no great value (why not?), so what are your thoughts on breaking open today's mint rolls and doing some searching? There are known errors of both Washington and Adams. These are business strikes: as the NIFC's were all later years. If I did carefully crack open the rolls to search them, do you imagine there would be any future numismatic interest in BU rolls that have been pre-searched? I'm currently played-out searching CW cent and dime rolls. So, search and redeem or save? Thank you, Brina.
@Brina go look here for comparative valurs if you were to find one http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/2007PDollarAdamsDblPlainFS.htm
I am having to crack open PCGS graded coins to attempt to gain more than $1.99 the guide has them listed at
I opened all of mine. I doubt that there will ever be a premium for mint wrapped Presidential dollars.
Sell the sizzle not the steak. Run a sample sale on ebay. Some folks can not get full rolls and want some. Sell the rolls with low values and no chance of varieties that way. Where there is a chance of varieties show what could be in those rolls and what they would be worth if they are in there. Start the sales at slightly above cost the first round. You want to learn not scare folks. good luck
I agree to opening them. They are basically only worth face value unless you find the error coins. (Missing edge lettering? Doubled edge lettering?) If you find something like that, I would just dump the rest at face value. And I don't like taking them to another bank. Just spend them on something you would buy anyway, at Wal Mart or wherever. Gas for your car, etc.
Brina, being me I'd leave them as is. You can always break them open at a later date. There are individuals that will pay for a sealed roll as they like to search. Once opened that is lost. I think the chances of finding an error are extremely low. If you want to roll search you can go get something else from the bank.
