1952 South Africa 5 shilling I just now noticed for the first time the VOC logo on there.

 

Wonder what is that yellow stuff on that coin, and can it be safely "cleaned" off.

 

I would like an answer to that myself. Maybe PVC damage? The seller photos on this had no hint of the yellow haze...

Looks like that coin also has the same type of odd bulge (red line) that my 1913 BWA has. I am thinking that is the type of error I read about somewhere on a thread about the pressure on the obverse pushing through and causing a bulge on the reverse in line with the outline of old George's head. I have a few Great Britain pennies like that too.
