It’s rather simple, really. People don’t care about the coins themselves anymore. It’s all about the plastic they are in.
Exactly my experience on several occasions!! I've even received some unwarranted/unsolicited comments that they may rue some day. The comments pertained to very scarce coins delivered in ACG holders. I believe the coins may merit/receive an upgrade in the future. JMHO
Why was this thread brought back to life after 4 years? People quoting what I said 4 years ago is sorta ridiculous. w/e
A 'nine'? Wow. That's what can happen when typing out a conversation- Not intended to be taken that way and wasn't being passive aggressive either. Was sincerely asking if I was missing something regarding your opinion.
BTW, your reply about the graders taking ten seconds on each coin, though I hope that's an exaggeration, is informative. (Been considering reconsideration and crossover for a few of my coins.) Happy NINETEEN! (How'd that happen?)
Completely agree with this statement. I’ve submitted a few raw coins that I intended to sell pretty recently, but it had been over a decade since I made my last personal submission. I’ve been working on a set of MS-65 or better wheat cents for the last few weeks and have purchased over forty PCGS MS-65 and 66 RD pieces already graded for less than ten bucks a piece delivered. I can’t understand why anyone would have submitted them in the first place, but their loss is my gain. Truth be told, I’ve cracked out hundreds of coins to add them to my “permanent collection” Danscos, but I’m doing all slabbed red wheat cents in an attempt to retain the color. Too hot and humid down here to keep a red set of any coppers no matter what I’ve tried.
They take the time they need too. There's no countdown or shot clock. Most coins only take a few seconds, some take longer.
Remember PCGS motto, “The Best Coins Always End Up in PCGS Holders”. So, take it with a grain of salt that the better the coin, the better the chance of crossing over. Keys, semi keys, and exceptional top pop condition I think have the best chance.
