Hello. What value in US dollars is this 5c error splendid Jefferson Nickel 1969-D What do you think about it? Thank you, gianni
A person that wants to rip you off calls that rare. In the coin world we call it a variety. Varieties are not rare, fairly common and bring little to no premium. Nice find and a keeper since you found it. Welcome to CT.
First, welcome to the neighborhood, Gianni! Just out of curiosity, where did you read about this "rare" variety? Chris
It is not a rare coin and not even a variety but a coinage ERROR. In all 5c 'liberty' be detached from the edge of 2mm. Maybe not be unique. You have 5c 1969 with these errors ??? Post image if find please
Coins that have serious ERRORS / DECENTRATES of coinage are exceptions of great interest to many collectors. There are examples of ERRORS of minted paid suitcase of dollars
There coin are rare examples. This is not photoshop trick but real money paid thousands of euros. A resounding mistake. The errors may be there but the coins with errors must be destroyed by the mint and not distributed otherwise become collectible as coins unique pieces
Yes the Italian coin is a true error and is valuable. Exactly how valuable I can't say. Result of the center piece not being down completely in the hole with one side being on top of the ring piece. During the strike the center piece stretched far enough to fill the center area and also spread out over the surface of the ring. But the 1969 D nickel you pictured is NOT a valuable error. The obv die is slightly misaligned which is a VERY MINOR error and fairly common. The merging of the lettering with the rim is just due to the deterioration of the die at that point. Not too unusual on misaligned die coins.
No, but it is a poor translation of another word in another language (off-centered) used by someone whose native language is not English.
Sorry for my English. The definition may be wrong. Coins with these defects by law can not be distributed circulating but destroyed by the mint. Even the 'double die' should not exist and yet they are found and are overpaid by collectors. Possible that you do not understand?
This image reflect big evidence in more zone. Normal coin is 5,00gr but this coin '69 is 5,05gr. The icon Jefferson is big. With the naked eye we can see that this coin has something anomalous, the reliefs appear in 3d
