Grade and Value: 1865 IHC

What do you think this would grade, and whats its value?

Looks like a VF-35 to me. You paid $10 for it and it's worth $35.

VF-20 details cleaned. Worth around $22. You probably paid $12.

why do you say cleaned?

 

Those whitened areas cause me to suspect that somebody removed some of the dirt and toning from that coin years ago. Still, even so, the coin has nice eye appeal.

 

Yep - VF20 cleaned. If you look at the high points you can see they are a lighter color than the rest of the coin, I personally think it was lightly cleaned. It is a very nice coin. Looks like the plain 5 variety. I would also guess $14 and say you got a decent deal. I would put the value between 20 - 30 dollars.

You know the more I look at that first picture the more I think it is the fancy 5. Still a nice coin for the price.

 

My opinion is VF-30/ net with light portisity/dark.

Nope the plain 5 is slightly scarcer according to Rick Snow's book.
