    Beautifull coin:)
Plus the fact that a CNG Good VF is EF for most other auctions.;) Most likely AU55 if slabbed....

I've noticed that. My Justinian tremissis was a CNG gVF and slabbed MS at NGC. And I had an English John penny they called gVF go AU55 at PCGS.

    Thanks.

@lordmarcovan A great coin that looks medieval from top to bottom, it gets the Old Dead King Seal of Approval.

Nice pick up and glad you scored the one you were after. I bid in my first CNG auction today and won the single coin I bid on - now I'm poor for a bit.

I will never see anything but the Mantis King from now on, when I look at this coin!

I've even posted this before, on the thread where it belongs, but, Nope, Slap My Hands and Everything, Can't Stop.

Nice coin, but you need to tell us why you wanted it! :shy:

Edit: oops, just noticed this is an old post, duh. Still, inquiring minds want to know, @lordmarcovan!

Nice grey contrast, Crusader-related, quintessentially medieval-looking.

This old post by Ye Olde Dead King proved prophetic, since he later ended up owning this coin in the OP.

You see, he is “my dealer”, in street parlance, and since he is my one (and usually only) numismatic creditor, and I almost always owe him money, he gets occasional “pillaging rights” to my collection (within certain boundaries).

As a result, many of my better ancient and medieval coins often go off to live with him. But they’re all welcome back here any time. In fact, most don’t come back, and a few have produced some seller’s remorse. But that’s what happens when I remain indebted to him. I’ve gotten some good buys in the other direction, so it’s all good.
