this was one of my projects that was influenced by the good peeps here i did a lot of thinking on it after last nite receiving Nerva's coin.. i thought about how there were actually 6 (7 with Aelius, but he never actually got to "be" emperor per say?!?) official emperors so 'POOF'. here's my rendition of "the 5 Good Emperors" at the end of an old year and start of a new one POST YOUR COINS AND COMMENTS PEEPS Nerva, Trajan, Hadrian, A.Pius with Lucius Verus) below & Marcus A.
Nice set @ominus! Really like AEs as they feel great in hand! I will post my 5, 6, 7 when I can get to my database...
Very nice @ominus1 . Great coins and great collecting area. I've decided to go after a collection of the Nerva-Antonine dynasty (which includes the 5 good) starting predominantly with silver. The project took up a great portion of my 2018 collecting energy. I envy your completed set! I still lack Marcus Aurelius in any metal. Still searching for the right example. Here are my examples of the 5 Good Emperors.
Curtisimo, Wassup with coin #4 with that lady standing there with her hands and arms out as if to say " What the Heck ", or " What, Me Worry? ". LOLOL
Haha yes she does look to be confused. The figure on the reverse is the personification of Pietas. She is where we get our English word "piety". In Ancient Rome piety didn't only have a religious connotation the way it does today. Pietas could be anything that someone was dutiful in. This reverse does have a religious significance, though, and shows Pietas praying with an altar at left and stork at right. This rather quizzical pose was apparently the standard representation of praying as can be seen by this statue of Livia praying in the Vatican museum. Perhaps they were all just confused about what to do next during those elaborate sacrifice rituals.
Nice select club of « human » emperors. Here’s my old Trajan. He travelled a lot, but it smells the goodness...
Why do you keep SHOUTING about marshmallow candy? I was pretty sure there were some coins in the pictures you posted so I lightened the images until they were visible. Yep, there are some nice and interesting coins there! ... It's a nice theme and a fun set . I still don't have a Nerva . Here are a couple of new-ish pickups... bookend portraits of Antoninus Pius. The left-facing coin came up for auction and before it closed the second coin appeared in another auction. I wanted the type and had to bid on both to ensure winning one of them.
