I am not familiar with coin collecting so I thought I woud see if any of you have any idea on the origins or value of the coin in the doc. attach. The owner told me that it is a gold coin from the roman era and from that region, but I couldn't find any roman gold coins that looked anything like it. It is a little smaller than a quarter and a little larger than a nickel. Any ideas? Appreciate any help.
Well, it does lokk like it is gold. Past that....I'll leave it to the exprets here. Also, welcome to the forum.
Its a Renaissance Venetian gold soldo. I can't vouch for the authenticity of it, but perhaps GDJMSP could give more info.
It's a Venetian ducat issued by the Doge Andrea Gritti 1523-1539. You can read his name on the obverse. To determine probable authenticity I need diameter and weight. Definitive authenticity can only be determined by an in hand examination.
Thanks Appreciate the replies. Knowing what kind of coin it is I was able to a little research and come to the conclusion that the seller is not very honest. Once again thanks to those who helped me out.
