My first 2 coins are Roman. The first has Claudius II with bust heading left, and reverse of Sol raising hand and holding a whip. It's a bronze antoninianus- Antioch mint. Ric 221.
The second coin has Philip I on obverse. But reverse seems to have a 3D circle including 4 lines within wreath. There seem to be some counter marks on the top and the base of the wreath. I can't tell the mint of that second coin which weighs 15.2 g. and measures 30 mm. Clod2 O Sol.jpg Clodi 2R Ant Ric 221.jpg Philp 3D.jpg Philpro R.jpg

Actually I searched for coins of Philip I on Wildwinds, before posting here.
Damascus is listed there with only 2 coins not figuring the Olympia Sebasmia games. I bought this coin at 10 PM yesterday. It was one of a six_ coin lot that I owned. Among them are this of Claudius II above and king Abgar which I posted yesterday. BTW. I'm already registered to CNG but I need some time to get acquainted and avoid forgetting my password every while I need to log in.
Thanks a lot. Hope it will be a nice and Happy year to all of you.
I also have to tackle issues related to History through ancient coins. For instance, I'm wondering where did the Romans hold the Olympic games ? Rome, Athens , Syria or what? And how often . Do we know about the sorts of games they used to hold or play.
