Hey everybody, I’ve been loving the year in review posts, you all have awesome coins! I wasn’t expecting to get any coins this year because I moved out on my own last year and, so, my financial situation changed drastically. However, things turned out far beyond what I would have imagined thanks to the incredible generosity of my friends! Here is my epic year end haul: I’m just speechless. It may be a small haul to some, but it’s incredible to me! I’ve been spoiled and blessed! Each coin, artifact, book and replica set means a lot to me. They were meant to be a part of my collection and I’m grateful for that. I’m most especially grateful for all of my friends here, which includes EVERYONE! Your generosity and support have helped me more than you know! I’d like to give a shout out to @Deacon Ray, @TIF, @Andres2, @Stevearino, @JGGonzalez, @Severus Alexander, @Justin Lee, the anonymous gifter of Helena and so many more for making this year a blast! I’m sorry if I’ve left anyone out, my memory isn’t the greatest. I’ve attributed all of the coins except for the Spanish one, it still remains a mystery. Somebody, I can’t remember who, mentioned that it could be from the 15th or 16th century. If anyone can shed some light, I’m all ears. Thanks for being who you are, never change! Here’s to even more fun in 2019! Erin
Cool set of coins, book and oil lamp! I really like the star of Bethlehem coin, have almost bought one several times. John
great looking little set of coins. is that little one a Thracian lion Hemidrachm or an obol of Miletos? Cool pretty old display and oil lamp also! You are starting your own museum Erin!
That's a cool group of coins @Johndakerftw ! That Constantine LRB is nice lookin', so is the Helena. I'd love to have the jumpin' sheep provincial! Even have a cool lamp so you can see your coins at night!
Thanks everybody! It’s been an exceptional year in a lot of ways. The baby is a Miletos diobol. It’s my oldest coin. Here’s Sev’s pic of it: I’ve been trying to get a date for the Alexander coin, I’ve been researching and found dates of 325-310. So, possibly a lifetime issue? The Constantine has slivering that doesn’t show up to well in my pic. It’s really nice! I’m pretty sure my bro is jealous of the Star of Bethlehem coin. So, we might see one from him in the future. The oil lamp still blows my mind. My bro was inspired to get one of his own, along with a terracotta document stamp with a sweet fingerprint on the back: I’ve seen a lot of these with an emperor’s bust, but not really any with an insect. I think steve6x had one similar. Does anybody know what the significance of the insect would be? Happy early New Year all! Erin
Cool coins and great oil lamp Erin - have you tried it out yet? I bought a modern copy of an oil lamp and it worked OK for about 3 months, burning olive oil, but then it started leaking from the bottom so I had to toss it. I wonder if the ones from antiquity leak eventually?
You are blessed indeed @Johndakerftw ! So many people willing to gift you is really meaning a lot, about you (the nice person you are) and about the incredible community here at CT ! Congrats to you all Q
Trust me, Cucumbor, I’m overwhelmingly blessed. Sometimes, I feel like I’m too blessed. I don’t think I’ve been more accepted and welcomed by any other group of people like those in our community and my church. I’m not allowed to play with fire, ancient coin hunter. I’m stupidly absent minded and would completely forget about it. Helena was definitely a star this year, Severus! Erin
Those are some AWESOME ancient artifacts, Erin! That 2000 year old fingerprint blows my mind—(of course my mind was half blown already ) Happy New Year to you, my friend!
PS- that old seal/stamp thing with the bug and the fingerprint is way cool! A detecting buddy and I were out in a field near here picking up prehistoric Indian pottery sherds, once. He found some big fragments. We each found a small bag full. Pretty plain stuff, except for cordmarking or a few dots and beads, but one of his pieces had a big thumbprint in it. There's something about a fingerprint that's thousands of years old. It's got a certain ... oh, I dunno ... a kind of aura, I guess. Hard to put it into words, but I suspect you know what I'm talking about.
