    Hi there,

There seems to be a few of my coins with these laminations over them. It’s confusing. Was this a common way to preserve them? Has anyone seen this type of damage?

Looks like something was on the coin and the coin toned but the covered area did not. Tape, glue, paper?

It seems like tape but it’s well adhered to the coin. You think I should try to remove it? And if it is removed, is there any way to even out the look of this coin?

Acetone my friend. Soak it for a day or two in chemical grade --not salon grade-- acetone and rinse with hot running water, but don't rub the surface of the coin. It should rinse off.

I’ll get some from the hardware store tomorrow. I’ll try to post progress pics. Unless it turns out horrible in which case I won’t.

    Thanks for the tips! :)

I would give it a few baths in acetone as well. Not really an easy way to even out the toning but there are some ways to help it a bit. Lets see what the acetone does first.
