Hi, Wondering if anyone can help me with a question on a 1924 S quarter. Take a look at the reverse of this. Doesn't it look like it was heavily scratched?? Why doesn't it have a details scratched grade? Or did it come from the mint like that? Thanks for any help!! 24 S Reverse.png 24 s obv 2.png 24 s obv 1.jpg

When they cleaned the die that struck this coin, the die has those scratches.
So yours are not scratches, but the reverse of the die that struck the coin.
1924-S in MS 67 is a MONSTER coin.

If the coin had been "whizzed", you would see the lines on the devices as well. Since you don't see the polishing lines on the devices, it is safe to assume that the lines were on the surface of the die before the coin was struck.

I don't have that coin! Mine is a 62. Just looking at it. I collect SLQ's and had never seen die polish lines that strong before so thought it was whizzed! But now I know!! Thanks for making me more knowledgeable!

Well, look who joined up. I recognize your profile photo, Patrick. Why don't you tell everyone here how, when I tried to purchase an 1822 Bust Dime from you over eBay using BIN --at an already enormous premium over a fair price-- you cancelled the order and relisted it, after I paid your price in full? Not to mention ZERO communication and ZERO explanation as to why?

BEWARE- ZERO ethics with this guy! I've dealt with him!

The lines are raised indicating that it was on the die. The lines are called die polish lines.

Bottom line, the guy is trolling. I don't know how someone selling high dollar rarities does NOT understand the concept of die polish.

I know the guy from eBay. He has a lot of high dollar coins listed at extremely inflated prices, yet when I decided to overpay, he threw the money back in my face.

Please stop. This is not the place for your problems. He is a new member and should be treated with respect until he shows a reason to be treated in a different manner.

So you would be ok if someone joined that treated you with zero ethics, and effectively cheated you out of something you wanted to buy with no explanation?

Thutmose, are you khafre2000 on ebay?

If so, I have a big problem with you.

If not, this has been a misunderstanding, and I apologize for the behavior of some members in this thread.

1916D10C has reason to believe that this member is a seller on Ebay. The two had a disagreement, and he blocked John. Fine, no big deal, that is an expected response to John's aggressive style (as many members here know).

However, John really wanted the coin, so he arranged for me to purchase it and ship it to him.

The seller cancelled my order, with zero communication and zero explanation. I tried to contact him, but was unable to through the Ebay site. I left him negative feedback based on this unacceptable transaction, which he was apparently able to have expunged.

If, and this is the key if, if he is that same ebay seller, then he absolutely should be called out for his behavior and not given the benefit of the doubt. If he is the ebay seller, than he has already shown that he should be treated in a different manner.

And again, if he is not the seller, then I agree that he should be welcomed until proven otherwise.
