Howdy everyone, I've always been annoyed by the crap that you get when you do a web search in Google, or any other place that offers search. Recently, I found out about a service Google offers, a customized search. So, I thought I'd try it out and see what it could do. Basically, what it offers is a Google powered search engine, but you can restrict it to whatever websites you think are worthy. Here's what I did: http://www.numiseek.com What I'd like to do, is make it into a community project. Please tell me what websites you think are valuable for numisimatic research, and I'll add them into this engine. There are some obvious ones, like Coin Talk and the US Mint website, that need to be included, but there are lots of other small websites with quality info that need to be added. Then, when you're doing a search, just skip Google and use Numiseek. Google is having a really hard time filtering out the spam from their engine, so I think it's about time we took over doing that. As with everything else I do here, comments are welcome
So far I like Numiseek. It's nice not to have to weed through dozens of E-Bay listings on the results screen to find what I'm looking for.
Great idea Peter, thanks. I've used this site and have liked it for what it is. http://coinresource.com/ Allen
Any way to seperate sales from pure research sites? I know the line blurs, but perhaps some sort of filter you can click on/off? Also, don't forget... http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ http://www.zeno.ru/ http://www.ukdfd.co.uk/ukdfddata/index.php?cat=1
Thanks for those! There might be a setting to filter out a specific type of website (sales, or whatever else).... I'll check into that. Are there specific searches that you're doing that are showing up too many sales pages?

A while ago I used this search tool http://www.coins2.com/ which seems to have a similar purpose. Problem is, a search engine that covers certain preselected sites only is, in most cases, not what I want. Hope this won't discourage anybody whose preferences or areas of interest differ from mine. Christian
The tool will get much better as we add more sites to it. When you do a search that doesn't return good results let me know, and even better if you mention what site you were expecting to find there but didn't find. I also want to make sure we're only putting in sites that have good, original information and not just regurgitated fodder for Adsense.
Hi Christian, I saw that too, after I setup the one on www.Numiseek.com The big difference is that this one is ours, it belongs to all of us, we decide what gets in it. And, we're using the Google search engine, I'm not sure what that one uses. That one looks nice too, but I thought it would be neat to have something that was built by the community as a community project.
Sweet idea! :thumb: Will come really in handy IMO. I'll have to post some sites later that I think are good, most are probably already taken though. Maybe put www.coinshows.com in, for people that are looking for specific coin shows. That is, if it isn't taken already. Phoenix

Hi Peter As a test I entered "1982 ddr" & Cent (don't know why I would pick that as a test!) These were the most noticably missing from those that come up on a standard google search WWW.coincommunity.com WWW.askaboutcoins.com WWW.lincolncentresource.com WWW.societyorlincolncentcollectors.org WWW.coppercoins.com Hope this helps some Richard
