Here's a little beauty that arrived this week. A very rare Vespasian denarius from Antioch struck in 70 AD. The ragged uneven flan is typical of the series but the good thing is they were struck in high relief. The portrait is early and has a distinct Vitelius look to it. The Virtus reverse is rare on Flavian coinage. David and RIC reference RIC 1379 (R3 unique). I am very happy to have acquired it and it fits right in with my eastern Flavians. Nice tone with some encrustations remaining.
