does the gold toning on Jeff. proofs have a negative effect when submitting for a cross over or regrade? 1208180626 (1).jpg 1208180623a (2).jpg

This is NOT a proof, but it IS a VERY nice example of a 1941-D.

What grade is it, and what would you hope it to be?

Typically gave priority to my thoughts before my eyesight....I thought this was a shot of my toning proofs! I have about 15 graded together in 2000 at PF68DCAMs. they are all evenly toning and all picked up the same grade(examples are in the bank). Just wondering if the pre-curser to toning might have been seen by the TPG and thus the PF68. IF I were to re-submit for a cross over or even a regrade would the toning be annotated or be negative to the results?

As long as it's like this color, it can't hurt and may help, on OLDER coins. Any new coin with this color has been mishandled. Color and age need to be seen as companions, and NOT treated as independent variables. Heavily toned modern coins are DAMAGED.

Well let's go VKB whats your opinion of trying to do cross overs with examples like this? Besides the beginning of toning at 2:00-4:00, the color of the label is all I can see to dissuade a grader from crossing this over to maybe NGC but most likely not to PCGS.... Not a proof but the toning adds to it's beauty. In this case toning should not affect the grading but with the TPG's one never knows.

I would never count on an ICG 70 to cross to either NGC or PCGS, period. Toning or not. Yes, you could get lucky, but I wouldn't count on it. To start with, NGC won't even DO an ICG cross. It's a raw coin to NGC.

Just an example. Like I said that green label is a grade killer. I have some IGC 1c 1963 and 1963-D books at NGC 1k and 3k and at PCGS 63-D 15.5K I think especially PCGS will never give that grade again to any 63-D....otherwise I would crack them out and submit as raw

Forget the green label. The shape of that case makes it look like it was damaged by heat.

a normal early 2000's IGC holder. What are you seeing? These have either been in the house or in the bank for 16+ years.

That's the shape of their slab. Completely normal

Normal, yes but I don't have to like it.

What is the grade on the 41-D? And is it also in ICG plastic?

That gasket doesn’t look like NGC.

It has to be either PCGS or ICG, with that coin holder gasket look.

Initially you called it a proof coin, now you say it resides in an NGC fatty holder, although from the pictures it clearly doesn’t. Do you even own this coin?
