The Friday before Christmas I received an email from a trusted and much loved Ancients Forum member notifying me that I would be receiving a package the following day. The package would contain a gift from himself and one from an anonymous Ancients Forum member. The next day around mid-morning the package arrived as promised and inside were gifts of Biblical proportion. I was instantly rendered incoherent and babbling! I couldn’t believe my senses. I know the initials of one of the generous benefactors (JA) but the other remains a mystery. I’m still in shock over this generous act of kindness which I don’t deserve !!!
I would love to have that Marc Antony. Pretty rare and expensive! As far as the Augustus victory at Philipi one- Its a favorite of mine but I thought those are pretty common. Im a cheapskate and have 6 or 7 of them in good shape.
"A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men." What a magnificent gesture. That Antony/Octavian denarius...
Astonishing. Truly generous gifts. I suspect that one or more members appreciate your consistent kindness and goodwill on this board.
Gonna have to start calling you Sugar Ray. Cause those coins are sweeeeeeet! That Antiochos Vll portrait of eros w/Isis headdress on the reverse was surely done by a mint master. That excellent level of artistry is rare for his time and place. Those Vic Aug coins are some of the first coins I became excited about when I started collecting. Everybody has their own story about em. Of course it's always a bonus to get such a great portrait of a empress. But it's a double bonus to get a provincial with ZEUS on it!! That Marc A is a show stoppa Coingrats buddy. Couldn't have gone to a better guy
Congrats @Deacon Ray Contrary to what you claimed I think this is well deserved. You have been very generous to many members here not just in terms of giving your coins but also regarding the giving of your time. The coins are wonderful!
yeah seriously. I think the coins with portraits on both sides are a bit on the rare side Second Triumvirate coins are a huge win.
Wowzers!!!! Fabulous coins that were gifted to one who is incredibly deserving! Congrats Deacon Ray and to the awesome gifters! Our members are indeed the best! Y’all blow my mind! Erin
Yeah those are some great gifts. Its great how SOME people on here can be nice.! You deserve it Deacon
Wonderful coins @Deacon Ray ! Just. Plain. Awesome! Yeah, I be a bit partial to the Marc Antony... congrats!
I consider all of these coins treasures but the kind and unexpected gesture of JA and the anonymous member are what I will treasure the most. Any one of the members of this Forum could be the giver and although I have a hunch who the anonymous person may be, it could have been any of you. From what I've seen during my membership here, there are many Ancient Forum members who are capable of such kindness and generosity.
