This 1943 sticks to magnet, so it should be steel but it isn't deteriating like the other, on front or back. Looks like there also maybe doubling. Thanks
It looks like the coin is simply rusting and deteriorating. I don’t see any doubling. Keep searching though!
Hi , charcoal . There are actual 1943 steel pennies with real doubling on them, but this is not one of them. In fact , they're quite common. Keep searching and maybe you'll find one. Try to search coins in better condition. Thanks for posting.
I think any Doubling would be hard to see on a coin in such condition. Your photos do not help in the determination. You will need to look with a loupe to find any doubling. http://www.varietyvista.com/01a LC Doubled Dies Vol 1/DDO 1943-D.htm
Thank you for your explanations, and your time, I do have uncirrulated 1943 pennies, but just didn't understand the milky color verses the rusty color.
The 1943 steel cent is Zinc plated. When the zinc oxidizes it turns white/milky. These cent were Not well received by the pubic. Most were pulled from circulation soon after issue. A lot of these were collected, Re-plated, and sold to the general public as a novelty. It has become difficult to find good original cents that have not been re-plated. The Denver has been hardest for me to find in a clean original condition.
Thank you for explaining this an your time. Maybe I'm wired wrong, but it bugs me when if the two coins are rusting an deteriorating, why they were so different. So again thank you
