I didn't believe them when they said PCGS is very tight on grading right now...

I arrogantly cracked out some NGC coins and just got absolutely decimated. One of the coins, everyone I showed it to thought it was a given to upgrade...nope, it down graded. The other coin is exceptionally nice, but went from a straight grade to altered surfaces.

You just never know what they may think but it's the same with NGC.

Crack it out and send back to NGC. If you still have the original label and the NGC slab, send those with it asking for it to be reslabbed.

All they would do is remove the old cert number and throw away the slab. Once the coin is raw there is no option for them to reslab it.

Take advantage of it by buying newly graded PCGS coins I guess! Sorry for your bad results, you're definitely not alone.

Just to follow up with the OP post, I would have liked it as an agreement but it felt wrong to like something like that.

    What about ANACS?

Two grades lower in PCGS will sell for the same amount as ANACS two grades higher, and be far easier to sell.

Don't waste your money submitting to ANACS.

Please understand I'm not being flippant here, but help what ? I mean the man has already done what he has done and the opinions of anybody on this forum aren't going to change the opinions of the TPGs. Sure, we can comment and offer our opinions, but it's not really going to help anything, not for him anyway. At best about the only help would be to help "us" form our own opinions. Which coupled with a 5 dollar bill will get ya a cup of coffee.

I dunno, and he can speak for himself, but given the title of this thread I think what the OP wants is to discuss is if anyone else thinks the TPGs are tightening up their grading standards.

And that has nothing to do with the coins themselves. They could be equal grades, but the plastic is what matters

That’s a question only regular submitters like @C-B-D can answer

They have, but not egregiously. Some still come back what I think they will, and some come back a point lower (which makes a difference with coins hovering between the XF45 and AU50 grades, etc.). I currently have 2 orders at NGC and 1 larger order at PCGS. We shall see what happens with these batches.

As a side, and perhaps to make a larger, more important point, I have only been playing the resubmission game with one coin. And only because the payoff can be huge. The rest of my submissions are getting sold off as is, like my UNC details questionable color Indian Cent currently at auction. I'm taking my lumps and getting rid of it. I recommend everyone save their money and do the same unless 1. You truly believe in a coin and 2. It's worth the cost.

For me, October 2017 thru February 2018, I was getting better than expected grades.

For me moderns and worlds have remained pretty consistent but there was a noticeable tightening around this time last year with another that occurred again after that, particularly with Seated stuff.

@Lehigh96 you claim that this is all just a myth. Care to comment?
