So Is this an ERROR OR NOT. IM REALLY NOT SURE.THERE IS A FEW THINGS ON THE EDGE THAT MAKES ME THINK THAT IT COULD BE. SO NOT SURE REALLY .IM NOT A COIN EXPERT.
If it's incused then there are examples of the edge of another coin hitting the area where the lettering is and leaving an impression. Hard hits can cause this.. But not during the minting process.
No need to shout. It is a bit of a puzzle. Letters like this often show up from two coins impacting each other edge to edge, but such resulting letters are raised not incuse. A double impact could result in an incuse letter on the edge like this ( raised letter from first impact incuse letter from second impact) but I would not expect it to be as sharply formed as this.
I know my eyes aren't what they used to be but it looks to me like that R is where the I for In should be. Also looks raised when compared to the I and it looks backwards, like in a vice job.
The R is backwards and I'm leaning towards a hit from another coin. In this case the value would be the face value-$1.00. Not a Mint made error. But good eye to catch this and something you won't see on a regular basis. IMHO. And BTW, patience is a virtue. We are all not on here 24/7. Someone will answer you eventually.
