I know nothing about coins and just happened to get these as change the other day and I was wondering if anybody knows if they hold any value
To me they are $20 each. These are modern notes. Yes they printed less of them than the non star notes. And yes people collect star notes. But to have a premium, they would need to be PERFECTLY CRISP and brand new, or have some type of "special" serial number. For example if the 1 and 9 were switched, you would have 3 birthday notes. Which mean nothing to me but some people like them 06-05-1984 06-05-1983 06-05-1982 Check out this site:http://www.coolserialnumbers.com/FancySerialNumbers.aspx
If they are merely bent without a hard fold, someone might give you a little over face value. They are from a large run of 3.2M, meaning they’re not scarce. If I received them, and they are fold-free, I would keep the nicest example and offer the others to fellow collectors for face value plus mailing costs. Nice find.
Nice find but it's just a few star notes. Someone may be willing to pay a few bucks over face value. They are new and hopefully not creased, just bent. Condition is everything but not worth a lot.
I have trouble wrapping my head around these modern stars being worth anything. Even if they were worth $21 each, you can't make a profit selling them on EBay, I doubt a dealer is going to pay more than face. And any other avenue you take to try to sell them, is not going to be worth the time and trouble (and possibly postage).
They may be the equivalent of a modern beat up silver certificate but when i got 2 consecutive crisp $20 star notes out of an ATM in the middle of a bunch of other 20s, I put them in plastic and stashed them. Still have them. You gotta save that.
