So I'm looking at posts of obviously bogus auctions and thought why not start listing them on one thread? Got one you don't like post a link so we can make up our own minds. If people choose to report then go for it. We really need a central place to find these things so here it is. Here's a complaint link. Thank you Mark Feld for that one. Now here's a few auctions that need to get stopped. I'm providiing links to other threads so the OP gets the credit due. Read them, look at the auctions and make your decision. http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=33053 http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=33054 Now these are just a few examples to get the ball rolling as it were. Everyone has their own opinion but having one place to see such auctions is a good idea IMHO. It's real simple. Find the auction(s), post a link and let it go where it will. clembo
Thanks for the thread - I think it's a good idea and hope that others agree and will participate. You might consider changing the thread title slightly to something like "Report bogus Ebay listings HERE" so that those who have not opened the thread will more easily know what it's about? Also, the second listing you linked with 4 SBA's at $200,00 doesn't really strike me as the type of auction that people need to be warned about. It looks more like a practical joke and I doubt that even the dumbest of bidders would place a real bid on it. I apologize if I'm being overly picky
No problem at all Mark. Don't think I can change the title though. As for the SBAs his feedback is 90% and obviously a waste of time. However, people like this just need to be removed period in my opinion. The quicker the better. Let them know they are being watched AND reported. A scammer is a scammer no matter what category so toss them out pronto! clembo
I bought a non-coin item today on Ebay. I had bid on the item and had been outbidded. The guy had 2 and so he offered me the 2nd one at the same price. I took it and then asked him when I went to check out if we could work out sending the item by DHL (we use them alot at my business). He was asking $29.99 for USPS shipping and I did a quick check with DHL and saw that I could get it pretty fast for under $10. He said sure and that I could go ahead and check out. So I email him back and ask about the price different...he emails back that the total shipping cost also has packing, and ebay fee's added into it so no he won't lower shipping. So in other words...he is making $20 off shipping alone. Since it was an item I really need and can't wait much longer to find a replacement for a broken one I went ahead and did it...but you can bet that after I get the item he will get a LONNNGG email telling him about ebay rules and etc. Speedy
After you get it, try reporting him to eBay for excessive shipping. Particularly if you put hi email in the report, I think you have a chance of winning.
Here's a good one anyone feel lucky? http://cgi.ebay.com/1909-S-VDB-MYST...ryZ11944QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Sort of off topic, this seller is honest but what about the bidders on this coin, is their intention to buy the coin and then defraud someone by selling it as authentic? It would be interesting to watch this and sees who wins the coin and then track his auctions over the next few months. Guess I got way too much time on my hands! http://cgi.ebay.com/1923-P-Peace-Do...ryZ11980QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I just postd a seperate thread about a bad bunch oh Frankies....reported everything as well a while ago....waiting on ebay and paypal claims
Mr Merc, Not too far off topic as there is a very good chance that you are right. We'll most likely see this coin again as a genuine 1928.
Post them here too if you want Jack. Would honestly like this thread to be a "clearing house" of rip offs. People can read them then decide for themselves. It's almost like we need a whole sub forum for this. clembo
Anyone want to guess what is wrong with this one? Incidentally, the pic shows a little more red hue than the coin in hand.
is that the plastic covered 26-s you returned?? Another bogus 09svdb mystery auction. Even if you win the secret roll, the svdb is fake: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290200940922&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123
It has been whizzed. Here is their listing. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330200717460&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=014
WOW, whizzed copper, smoked nickels and fake DMPL's.....great folks. Dj, they givin TopLine a bad name, lol
I see no evidence whatsoever that the coin has been "whizzed"; lightly cleaned or dipped, but not "whizzed". I see many people use that term in what I believe to be an incorrect fashion.
There are plenty of ways that coins get scratched which have nothing to do with whizzing. A whizzed coin will have a completely different finish/appearance/simulated luster to it, and the Lincoln cent that was shown did not look whizzed.
We dont call it whizzing. Its called detailing here. : ) I don't see the usual swirls that whizzing generally leaves on this coin. May I ask what made you say the coin has been whizzed? A curious mind wants to know.
