    Here's my Tetricus II...

    tetricus2.jpg

Gotta admit that the reverse is pretty crude...not a barbaric copy but definitely close...

Looks like we are up to Aurelian after the defeat of Tetricus I and II - end of the Gallic Empire? (Bump)

Here's my lam-o Aurelian from an uncleaned hoard. The flan is bent (oddly) and it is in pretty poor condition, but let's move on, shall we?

I am not even sure of the reverse.

Thanks @Andres2 - I think your second coin's reverse is the same as mine, just hard to identify on my example.

Just curious, does anyone have one of those rare coins minted for and of just Vabalathus or his ultra rare father?

Here's some fun Aurelian coins. Rather than listing the attribution info... I'm just going to say in a few words why I like each.

I just like everything about this coin, especially the portrait. I feel this portrait is more lifelike than anything from other mints at this time.
    Aurelian4393.jpg

This one is from 270, just before Zenobia's Palmyrene forces took Alexandria. Hard to find.
    AurelianMilne4301.jpg

This coin is heavy, well centered and in good shape. Although struck with a worn die, I like the reverse type.
    AurelianRIC152.jpg

Look at that tough guy obverse bust!
    AurelianRIC216.JPG

I did a double-take when I first saw this coin. It has nice high-relief of the figures and bust. It's a dirty coin but that helps enhance the details.
    AurelianRIC_.jpg

A little porous but the reverse figure is sharply struck with no wear.
    AurelianRIC220.jpg

I like the odd bust type. Fashionable! Kind of reminds me of Kris Kross wearing their clothes backwards. Plus lots o' silvering.
    AurelianRIC289.jpg

This coin seems to be unlisted in RIC. I can't remember exactly as it's been awhile since I cataloged it but at the time I could only find 2 other examples known anywhere of this workshop, both in old black and white photos here: http://www.ric.mom.fr/en/coin/2236
Rare, nice looking and we all know how much Aurelian liked Sol.

Oh! And how about this little nugget. A Tetricus II as Augustus! Almost certainly a barbarous imitation... but still, finding a TII with an obverse legend ending in "AVG" rather than "CAES" is interesting.

I've given up on my catchup post (or I should say posts, plural, since all the coins from people we've passed would require two or more posts for me to post them.)

But if we're on Aurelian, here he is, as RESTITVTOR ORBIS, and again, with Vabalathus on the second coin.

(PS- I always carry that second coin in my pocket, in case someone wants me to flip a coin with them to decide something. I choose "heads" and win every time.)

(PPS- OK, no, I made that last bit up.) ;)
