The 1996 D? appears to have been dragged as it was pressed..strong 'shadowing' along the right side. I included the reverse as well. On the Bicentennial I noticed it has a sort of inner ring along some of the edge and maybe some of the Liberty lettering is flattened. I leave it to better coin judges than me to decide if these are worth anything or if they are just pocket change.
Looks like a broadstrike on the 1996. Looks to be some coin rolling machine damage on the bi-centennial. But I am just one level above new.lol
Looks like a misaligned die strike. Because of the other end of the coin doesn't have it. If it is a Broadstrike look at the edge of the coin if it doesn't have any ridges then it is a Broadstrike. On the bicentennial quarter I don't see anything.
I guess all the broadsides I have been looking at have been on both sides. Forgot about the simplist, the MAD. Well I was half right. I am just going to start going with PMD, then I’ll usually be 80% right. Gotta go with the best odds!
I guess what I really wanted to know on the 96 is are they wanted by collectors; is it something I could try to get cash for? I am not a collector as such, just got this a few years ago from a vending machine in change. To be honest I keep all of my coins that I think are nifty (like common wheat pennies) in an old aspirin bottle. I can almost hear the gasps!
Somebody else can chime in if I am wrong, but misaligned dies do not carry that much of a premium over face unless they are close to 50% or more out of alignment. Every little bit more increases the value along with condition of the coin. Myself, I would probably pay maybe a couple bucks at most (I usually undervalue items) but I could see it maybe going for up to $5.
wonky weird, whacked out, messed up, not working for no definable reason. Usually applied to technology.
Thanks Rick, that was a new one on me. Kids are grown, I'm retired and leading a quiet sheltered life. It's so nice.
Thanks for all the info and laughs. Guess I will honor ol George with it and see if I can throw it across the Arkansas River next time I am out. Doesn't seem worth the gas money to take it back to a soda machine.
The MAD on the 1996-D is much more than is usually found. Even though it may be tough to find a buyer that would give you buck or two, if I got this in change, I would keep it. The bicentennial is a spender (unless you like saving them as well)
