How about the 1879-S with the largest documented gouge in the entire Morgan Dollar series? This one is spread across 3 separate VAM's.

    The 106

    The 107 with different reverse.

And a 107a this one being a LDS with very heavy obverse die polishing.

Yeah, that's a nice one. You have to wonder how many were in that recently opened bag....at least I assume it's a recently opened being a fresh discovery.

Edit to add - I just checked the '79-s page and VAMs-74 through 107 were discoveries from 2010 and later. Either an unloved date/mm or.....

The 106/107/107a were reclassified from the 1B which was discovered by Leroy a long time ago. The @Cascade found and submitted the 107a which was then assigned as 1B2 and the original was renumbered as 1B1. @Cascade made that coin his project and I found quite a few examples in my area that I bought for him and sent them down. Leroy got really excited about it and could not believe he had kinda shelved the original 1B with such a large obverse gouge. That's when it was discovered that the obverse gouge was paired with 2 different dies and the 1B series was assigned new VAM numbers at the end of the series to the 106/107/107a.
