I’m not confident enough of being around in 13 years — or whatever the length of the program is — to jump in.
I thought these blasted thing were coming out next year (2019) and was quite surprised when I just opened up my e-mail and received notification from the mint that they are available.......[how's that for a run on]. I mulled over the thing for a few minutes......should I, shouldn't I. I mean, like I've got all the presidentials and sacs in rolls and the bloody things are so heavy (aggregate) I can no longer lift them. At the end of a few minutes I said to myself, 'what the hey'? What's another few pounds of metal? What's the worst that could happen to Me? Drop the dang things on my toe? (@Randy Abercrombie ) I just finished ordering them from the mint. In and out in only a minute or two. A roll each from Denver and Philly and four proofs. If these things ever get popular down the road my grandson may have a winner. Or the Goobs could eliminate the paper dollar, and we'd all be winners.........Kurt is right. The uniqueness of this coin (2018, with the major series beginning next year) is ripe for exploitation.
You sucked me in - 3 proofs and a roll each of P & D. Maybe some missing edge lettering, etc. So, this is coming out at the end of 2018 and will be the only 2018 in the series. This could be a sleeper as Kurt said. I love items with no limits - it means that people don't order them. When the 1999-S Silver proof set limits were taken off, I told my brother-in-law to load up on them. He bought 4 and did very well, along with our 2009 UHR $20 gold that went MS70PL PCGS. Now he listens to me when I say "buy!"
I just received email notice that my order has shipped. It's coming via Fedex Smart Post, so it'll probably arrive after Christmas.
If you are going to buy rolls of every date/mm and send the best to NGC, why not create a "homemade" registry set? It sounds like a great idea and I might do it as well.
Got my two proofs today! They're packaged in an oversized lens that allows a view of the rim. That surprised me a bit, given the low $6.95 price. Sorry for the lousy pics but I'm lazy. They'll be all over the internet in a day of two anyway...
They're nicely struck and the mirrored fields look flawless. The lens is surprisingly nice. I would say they are easily worth the $6.95 asking price. Having said that, they will probably be available on the secondary market for less, so...
The only ones that will end up in circulation are those that get dumped at the bank after the roll and bag buyer get done searching them. And that probably won't be a lot of them.
