The Walking Liberty Half series started in 1916 and was made of .900 silver and .100 copper. Never have they been made of .999 silver.

The mintmarks on these are on the obverse from 1916-1917 and the rest are on the reverse, bottom left below the branch.

stainless, I think you are referring to the American Silver Eagles which are 0.999 silver and were first made in 1986. They are dollars, though, not half dollars, based on the walking liberty design.

Hmmmmm, how do I say this. Well, blunt works.

In my opinion, you are going way toooooo fast. You just posted a Morgan for trade that you just traded for, $40 for a Morgan and a SAE you got for a trade in cards.

If you keep it up, you will have 2 SAE's ( Silver American Eagles ) for $40. Now, get your calculator and go along with me, your paying $20 an ounce for silver with money you got probably gave away at %80 value at best....

It is fun to trade, wheel and deal, upgrade, etc....but you'll go broke quick and lose interest if you keep up the bad trades just for trades sake.

How about just thinking about it??? We are here to help you get off to a good start hopefully, not to try and tell you what to do or boss you around at all. We are just looking out for a fellow collector.

A-Jack is right. Take your time and enjoy each one of your purchases. It sounds as if you're just out to accumulate as much as you can instead of collect. You're eventually going to get ripped off in a trade and coin collecting will turn sour to you. We dont want that to happen to anyone. Take this advice, if you're unsure about any coin deal, please come here and ask first before you buy. Also, if your coin dealer cant tell the difference between a Walking Liberty Half and a $1 Silver Eagle maybe you should look for someone else to buy from. JMO

That sounds like a good idea. If you don't have a real interest in a particular coin series and a plan that lasts longer than a month, you're going to continuously spend money and end up with nothing. Right now, it seems like your dealer might be unloading some coins on you that he can't or won't sell to his regular customers like low grade morgans and ASEs with fingerprints.

Edit: Here's another thought. Most if not all of us probably began collecting coins from circulation, not buying coins from coin shops. It's inexpensive and risk free, and it gives you a chance to learn about grading and problem coins. You may also find something of value that can be traded someday. Jefferson nickels are a good set to start with because you can come close to completing the entire set by just getting rolls from the bank.

    Cloudsweeper99 is right, Stainless.
You need to start ROLL-SEARCHING !
If you want silver for cheap, this is the thing to do.
Start getting rolls of half dollars and searching for 1970 and older dates.
70 and older are 40% silver and 1964 is 90% silver.
After you search the rolls, you can spend them or take them back to another bank.
It's not good to take them back to the same one, they get snotty sometimes and you don't want the same ones back.

I too agree with Cloudsweeper99. Settle down. Take it easy. Not sure how old you are but you will not acquire a massively great coin collection by running around buying whatever a dealer says to buy. Not even what people on coin forums say to buy. Go to coin shows, coin stores, hobby shops, look on the internet, buy some books on coins and just look, look, look.
I started coin collecting about 1943 and hopefully will still be collecting even after I'm gone if possible. :rolling: I don't think I've got nearly what I want yet and for all I know I never will. So just take your time and do your purchasing in the future.

Carl, how you gonna collect when your gone? I told the wife a while back that I was taking my coin collection with me. She said ok, how much you think its worth. I told her.. She then said I will write a check for that amount and put it in your pocket when you pass. Hmmmmmmm...
