Looks like it was glued down to a paper or something back when it was still red and lustrous. The part with the glue stayed red while the rest of the coin turned brown.

i kind of looks like someone was melting pennies and some zinc got onto that one

someone probably thought it was cool and used a light metal like zinc or aluminum to spot weld it. that is typically what copper looks like after a different metal is welded to it

Stuck to chewing gum "paper" by spilled soda or some such thing. When the gum paper was peeled away, some of the aluminum foil stuck to the cent.

the "paper" would be darker if it was from gum

No it’s like a clear hardened glue can’t really scratch it either.. doesn’t seem like aluminum I used a x60 x90 scope for awhile not 100% sure lol . . Still a strange 1944 penny looks like a really amazing lincoln cent up close

Not much wear visible, but I am reminded of how in elementary school we would carefully separate the silver foil from gum wrappers and then rub the extremely thin foil onto a cent.

Solder or some other type of low melting point metal splashed on it (Zn or Al)

Chewing gum paper, meaning the paper that is used to wrap chewing gum.
