Mechanical Error. PCGS seems to make a lot of them. I'm grabbing my popcorn just in case, your threads of this nature always tend to get interesting.
I was wondering the same thing. I think he meant there’s no way it’s XF, but I can’t be sure based on the wording.
He’s saying it could not have possibly circulated down to XF levels before being pulled from circulation, again completely ignoring the coin itself. Also being ignored is the large amount of a green substance on the coin’s surface I have two words to respond: pocket piece.
I don't think the coin had much detail from the day it was struck. Could someone explain the Indent second strike part. Second blank being feed to the chamber?
I considered that possibility, but there is no luster and too much verdigris for a problem-free AU grade. That is my thought
I think XF is very generous. Look at the reverse. In early copper, we almost never see these kinds of errors in anything but well-circulated condition. I don't get why people think it couldn't have circulated. It was worth the same in commerce with or without the indent.
