I don't think so.. All you have ia a normal Cent struck with a worn die. 1999 is a Copper Plated Cent.. The Cent you are comparing it to is all copper. So it's impossible what you are seeing to occur.
Isn't this a 2nd thread on the OverStrike Flying Eagle Cent? There is absolutely nothing wrong with your 1999 cent, except for some corrosion issues. I'm at a bit of loss knowing how to respond to the coins and explanations you are giving us, and what you see on these coins you're posting.
Ebay won't help him.. Only people that know nothing about true errors might purchase his coins.. Sending it to any of the top TPG's will answer his question!
Gentelmen this is how you do it.. Get your self a nice clear image of reverse of flying eagle cent. Now get one of the images of the reverse of the coin i posted '99'. The one with black arrow pointing out a small what looks like a sratch. Still with me, now split your screen so you have both these images side by side . That scratch turns out to be the out line of one of the leaves that is on reverse of flying eagle cent. They match perfectly.
First of all, no. But let’s pretend for a second that it’s true, walk me through it. How did they get a copper plated zinc planchet, something that didn’t exist in the mid 1800s (and actually not until 1982), to strike the flying eagle cent? Where did they hide these couple coins in the mint, only to bring them out and re strike them? After doing all this, why didn’t they get them certified and sell them? I’ll wait for your answers. I’m sure you have it all figured out.
MR.Seattlite i dont know how the mint goes about their security. But it has happened right their is such U.S coins that have been struck on foreign planchets in the past what makes you think it cant happen again. Most likely it will continue happening in the short or near future. As long as the mint has employees the chances of that occuring are their.
How did they come up with a copper plated zinc planchet in 1856? How did they hide it for over a hundred years? No one Who works at the mint today worked there in then 1800s. Is this a giant conspiracy?
So I guess what you are saying is, someone in the 20th century took a copper plated zinc planchet, went back in time to the 1850's, had a flying eagle cent struck on it, then this coin sat around for 140 years and was restruck with the Lincoln design that it was originally intended for? Makes sense to me.
Okay, I played your game and did the overlays. There's no possible way that mark is from an FE Cent, because it doesn't line up (and obviously that the shapes are wrong anyway, it would be a continuous, curved line, not a linear/angled one). Come up with a new ridiculous theory for how this happened, I just debunked this one.
Too bad. It's always great to help a young collector and this kid got a lot of good suggestions like Wexler s doubled die site to learn the minting process. but Apparently he already knows everything. Guess he's just another one to add to the ignore list Sorry kid, you're blowing a great opportunity to learn from a lot of experts who want to help you learn. Over and out
So you think that this was an original FE cent that a mint worker through into the press in 1999 and struck again, right?
Top of the morning old hoopster every day is another opportunity to learn hoopster and i hunger for the knowledge. Yes and i agree their is a lot of experts out their that have the knowhow to educate the ones that lack it. i honestly believe your one of them. I dont have the know how at this time but i know i will. Before the mission special units are informed on the objective target and everything in between by their superior's or cammanding officer. You never hear a of green barrett, recon, navy seal getting chewed out before the mission like if they were some trouble making private at boot camp no sir. They are giving instructions with respect never criticized on how much they know. What use is knowledge when it's not teached. That's a big 10-4 hoopster.
