I understand the mechanics of how the coin was made. What I wonder is how it made it through the riddler and out of the Mint. (With a little help perhaps?)

    I was wondering the same.
It is possible that it could have gone unnoticed? but some of the other things that seller has, like the 2 stuck together, thats huge! how did that escape?

even the most egregious of errors sometimes escape the mint, because they just don't have the time to investigate every coin. Its just one of those things, that being said, the fact that it did escape when so little of these types of super errors do escape makes it just that much more valuable

Mint employies have been known to sneak stuff out in the past. Its either that or as simple as being over looked.

Totally unrelated, but since I have seen your sig a couple of times ...

A Dutch coin from 1979 would be a Cent or Gulden piece. Pfennig is German - and if it says "Bundesrepublik Deutschland", it's from the Federal Republic.
And the 2002 50 euro note ... well, that year just refers to the copyright and is not the production year.

Sorry for the "detour" ... :D

    sorry.. 50 euro cents
and the reason i was confused about the cent, is only because it said pfennig on the bottom of the cent
    thanks
