You coin racist!!!! :) Only silver - bah! Copper is great! So only look at the top of my safe - the lower half is mostly silver. :)

1992 S proof-67 $13 and I quote "This copper-nickel half dollar, designed by Mint sculptor T. James Ferrell, depicts Columbus landing th the new world on the obverse, and his three ships on the reverse." end quote.

    Let me explain...

I only collect gold, silver, and platinum becuase they are actually worth something. Clad, nickel, ect... is just junk to me (literally). ( No offense )

You did not have to explain - I was only kidding, thus the smiley face :). Plus it takes a lot more than that to offend me.:) What made it funny to me is I have more silver and gold than I to do copper. There is nothing wrong with your opinion or what you collect. Plus take a look at some of the older silver coins(personally the older gold designs are not my cup of tea) - I really like the draped and caped silver coinage, the seated coins and Morgans. Just more variety for you, but only if you want. Have fun and enjoy the board!

Modern that is. The pre 1950s comems were certainly 90%.

The 1982 Washington commem half and the 1993 Bill of Rights commem half are 90% silver.

I like the 82 washington's I've purchased quite a few of them before they went up in silver value a while ago, I too think clad equals crap.

A coin's 'worth' is very subjective. If you think the silver makes the coin 'worth' more based on what you could sell or exchange it for you are incorrect. Check out the value of the 2004 Clad proof set vs the 2004 silver proof set then just for grins compare both of those to the 2004 mint set. It's supply, demand, mintage and availability. And many of those clad modern commem half dollars have increased substantially in value since issue due to low mintage.

Then again, hey .. stick w/your theory. That just leaves one less person competing for rare copper and nickel coins. I wont have to worry about you trying to get the 1996 bu clad half olympic swimming or soccer because they're only clad. Good idea.

Just think, in 75 years, if you have a silver coin its going to be worth something. If you have a clad coin, you wont do so well.
