Hey, So I really like NGC.. even though they mess up a bit every once in a while PCGS is great also.. even though they mess up a bit every once in a while ANACS is liked by a few members here on CT and they submit to them BUT ICG... I really don't believe this... And you won't either! Introducing.. The Missing Clad Layer Copper Plated Zinc Cent
Not the slightest clue, not my area of expertise. Just figured you could shed some light on it before a bunch of guesses came in
It's a Lincoln Cent. To my knowledge the US Mint never made Lincoln Cents with a Clad layer. 1989 would be a copper coat on Zinc.
Your front door likely has a wood core that is clad with metal or fiberglass(if it is not a true wood door). The paint on the door is a coating or "plating".
@paddyman98 You should buy this worthless coin so you can have a wonderful example of an ICG labeling error. Or not!
Ok, I see what Paddy is talking about. These coins have a copper PLATING rather than being struck on a CLAD (3-layer) planchet. "Unplated" is a much better AND THE CORRECT usage. Thanks Paddy!
That's what I think too the copper has been stripped off post strike. It isn't an error coin, it's an altered coin.
