I came across a silver Roosevelt dime that was struck off center. I was thinking of buying it, but couldn't find a relative value. It is probably between 75 and 90% off center. I was looking through https://minterrornews.com/priceguideoffcenter.html They don't have silver Rosies valued. They were asking 75$ Xf AU condition. @paddyman98 @JCro57
I would value a 75% off center anything over a 90% off center anything - More design showing is more desirable, once you get to those percentage ranges, imo.
If I remember correctly there was part of the torch and a letter rev. And a little of the back of his head on the obv. Really not much details, but enough to tell it was a silver Roosevelt.
Thanks I might try to negotiate him down a little. Would 75$ be fair if it was in slab? or is that fair for raw?
Sounds like it's more than 75% o/c based on the description. As mentioned, that's a fair retail price, even for raw. Yes, you can try to make an offer that's $25 less, but I doubt the person would sell at that price - too good ! Maybe he'll give you $10 off and free postage?
At least where I am from (Buffalo), many error collectors (myself included) and dealers I talk to like coins to be up to about 75% off, but really love when they are as close to 50% off as possible and with a full date. There are always exceptions, of course. Unless the dime has scratches or environmental damage unrelated to the striking error, I agree $75 is a very reasonable offer; if you have a full date, I would say up to $125 depending on condition (for 90% silver Roosevelt's that is)
It would be an in hand purchase. I will take a look at it again before trying to get a better price. These guys aren't very easy to deal with. I'd have to bargain by buying more than one coin. We'll see. Thanks for the help. It is close to your 85% Paddy.
