Cheech9712, I messed up in the the label on the later set of 3 images- the middle one is #1 from my 1st image at the start of this post! Sorry for my mistake and any confusion...

Example #3 is the 1st we recorded as being sold after the source coin was purchased; I agree this is counterfeit and notified the TPG.

Example #2 was sold roughly a year after example #3, also in a TPG slab- after I notified them of this one back in 2016 the cert was changed to “Contact Customer Service”. With the unique scratch on the wing I believe this one to be counterfeit as well.

Example #1 was sold a few months after example #2; we have seen counterfeits and the repaired source coins sold at approximately the same time, so this wouldn’t be unexpected. I believe this one primarily due to the similar toning to the source coin to be the genuine but repaired & tooled source coin.

I nicknamed this one the "visor head" variety in my research article for obvious reasons; I suppose if you don't compare any of these to an image of a genuine one and were pressed for time you might miss that...

The "visor" being different on coin 1 than the other two is what led me to think it may be the genuine one, but ultimately eye appeal led me back to example 2. This was a great exercise, thanks Jack :)

I thought #2 was genuine based on the date, especially the 2.
but i'm not very good at SLQ

A bit late to the thread, but I at first thought that all were fake due to the differences from authentic examples. :p

Nice exercise, thanks for posting this.

I thought 2 genuine as it had more legit looking wear. No 1 looks more like wear being struck in the counterfeit dies and the surfaces look off. 3 an obvious fake

Unfortunately we may never know for sure, as they all 3 (along with a fourth one I didn't image here) may be counterfeit. But more to the point on these, there is certainly at least one counterfeit here! And good enough to have a couple in TPG holders as genuine. Hopefully from this research it will be obvious if another "crops its head" out there...
